My name is Daryl and Golden Path Technologies is my software development technology firm. I specialize in learning a wide variety of technologies and putting them together in novel ways. I don't limit myself to software either, as I also delve into both hardware and wetware problems.
My Mission#
I'm dedicated to solving complex and expensive problems in a meaningful way by combining knowledge various disciplines adjacent to software, then bringing them together to create human-centered and principled solutions guaranteed to create value for all stakeholders. I believe software should ultimately help people, not make their lives worse in any way, for stakeholders and creators.
Motivation#
The software world is currently experiencing various problems unique to this time period. At no other time in history have we humans been so connected to each other, yet so polarized. Technology has also allowed regular people with a good idea to become more powerful than most nations on Earth. Yet many aspects of this world is still operating as if none of this is happening.
One area of concern for me is the lack of labour innovation in the technology field. Many software development companies operate more like sweatshops than professional firms. As expected in these types of organizations, accountability flows downward while profits and decision-making power flows upward.
The effect this has on the products and services that come out of these firms is apparent. Apps that polarize our societies, destroy our businesses and client bases due to preventable defects, steal our personal info, and bombard us with useless or destructive information. Software developers like myself are complicit in all of this, even if we're just working to survive or feed our families.
Golden Path Technologies is my approach to help change the way software and its developers interact with the world. For now, this will remain a single person firm that works with other firms and individuals to create human-centered and profitable solutions, very similar to how the open source community operates. Most of my activity will be in open source, although I will branch out as the opportunity presents itself. I still have a day job, but it is my goal to one day work on Golden Path Technologies full-time.
How I Work#
Other than my day job, I'll be working as Golden Path Technologies and myself in the Open Source community. I'll either be creating solutions that help developers and regular folks, or contributing to other Open Source projects. If I find that a particular solution is popular and/or solves a novel problem, I may graduate it into a paid service. Software aside, I will also be creating blog content that covers various topics of interest either directly related to software development or mildly adjacent to it.
I'm currently not looking to do direct client work as I neither have the time nor the motivation. I'm not completely ruling it out, however. Depending on the type of work involved, I may consider it. Feel free to contact me at daryl@goldenpath.ca for any inquiries.
